I was super keen to get to the Tour of Denmark and have a race as it was my first race back after 2 months of training. My goal was to find my legs and get a bit of racing condition back so I was very surprised on the first day to find myself in a position to go for the sprint. Daniel Lloyd and Jez Hunt geed me to have a go at the finish and with their nicely timed lead out I placed 2nd to Matti Breschel (Saxo Bank) in a tough uphill sprint. I was very surprised and happy to get a result after such a long time away from racing. The rest of the Tour was tough with poor weather for a couple of days and windy conditions. On stage 4 Jez and Roger were in the break and Jez took the win with Roger in 3rd place. The team was pumped to get a win up. Roger also had a great race finishing 3rd on GC. The Saxo guys were impressive in their home town race, taking a number of stages and the GC win overall.
All in all, I was happy with how Denmark went. I really enjoyed being back racing again and I felt my condition improved day by day. The Tour was really well organized and the crowds were fantastic. I found the country of Denmark to be a very beautiful place which I would love to visit without my bike someday.
I had a quick trip home to Monaco and today I'm heading to Spain to race the Vuelta a Burgos, a 5 day Tour.
Simon.
