NewsFleche Wallonne
22 April 2009
It was another tough day on the bike the riders covering the 195.5km 72nd edition of la Fleche Wallonne in 4 hours 42.15 minutes.
Davide Rebellin of Serramenti PVC claimed his third Fleche Wallonne title today beating Andy Schlek (Saxo Bank) and Damiano Cunego (Lampre) while Simon rode a strong race to finish in 8th place, 11 seconds behind the winner. "I am very pleased to have achieved another top 10 finish. My race pretty much went to plan today. I gambled a bit when the attacks started to go in the last 30 or 40km. I didn't follow any of the attacks as I thought that the race would come back together. At around 30km to go, a dangerous break went off the front and Philip Deignan did a great job bringing it back. I saved everything for the final climb up the Mur de Huy. Unfortunately I was not well positioned on the start of the climb which might have cost me a couple of places, however I'm very happy with my form and 8th place today". RESULTS 1 Davide Rebellin (Ita) Serramenti PVC 2 Andy Schleck (Lux) Team Saxo Bank 3 Damiano Cunego (Ita) Lampre - N.G.C. 8 Simon Gerrans (Aus) Cervelo Test Team |
