Tour de France - Stage 20: Cérilly to Saint Amand Montrond (ITT), 53km

26 July 2008

By Simon Gerrans

When you reach the final time trial in the Tour de France you know you’ve all but reached Paris. For some riders, like Cadel, today’s race is the decisive factor in whether they claim the ultimate prize in cycling, wining the Tour de France. For others like me it is just part of the process of the Tour and making sure that I ride hard enough to beat the time limit.

Here’s a few things that went through my head during the time trial in order:
1. Gee I hope the mechanic’s pumped my tyres up enough...I feel like I’m going really slow!!
2. Is this thing only 53km long? It is feeling like 253 km!!
3. There’s another group of mad Aussie supporters
4. Some down hill road…great I can stop pedalling for just a second
5. Here’s the finish line…I’m so glad it’s over
6. Here we go, all the Aussie journo’s are waiting for me…I better clean my self up a bit!!

So the time trial is over and there is just one more stage into Paris until we can celebrate another successful Tour de France.
